What is the Extreme Huntress™ Competition presented by Brownells?
The Extreme Huntress™ Competition presented by Brownells® is about preserving our outdoor heritage. Our goal is to create positive role models for women who want to participate in hunting.
With a 50% divorce rate among parents and kids becoming invested in other sports at a younger and younger age, kids may not have the role models or opportunity to start hunting when they reach the legal age to hunt (12 or 14 depending on the state). If mom goes hunting, so will her children, thus preserving our outdoor heritage for future generations.
Now in its sixth year, the competition is wildly popular among contestants and fans. The Extreme Huntress Competition continues to set the bar for serious outdoors women, while at the same time providing positive role models for women who are new to hunting, shooting and other traditional outdoor sports.
How does the Extreme Huntress™ Competition work?
The Extreme Huntress Competition takes nearly nine months for the contestants to complete. We are now heading into Stage 5 of the competition. Now you get the opportunity to see these women in action– and you get the opportunity to vote 13 times.
Beginning Sunday, October 5th at 8:30pm EST, the first episode of Extreme Huntress will air online. Afterwards you can vote on which Extreme Huntress you think should win that episode. These short, 15-minute episodes will air each week for a total of 13 weeks. Every week you get a new chance to vote!
The winner of the 2015 Extreme Huntress Competition will be announced in January.
Stage 1: Essays are submitted
Women from all over the world are invited to submit a 500 word essay describing why they are the most hardcore Extreme Huntress.
Stage 2: Essays are scored
A panel of six celebrity judges score the entries to determine the top twenty semi-finalists based on a weighted set of criteria. The judges are interested in why the women hunt, rather than how many or what size animals they’ve taken.
Stage 3: Public online vote
Once the judges determine the top twenty semi-finalists, the essays are posted on ExtremeHuntress.com and the public is invited to vote for their favorite Extreme Huntress. Online voting is not meant to be a popularity contest, but rather an opportunity to bring more attention and public awareness to women and hunting.
Stage 4: Top 6 finalists compete at the 777 Ranch
The top six finalists travel to the famed 777 Ranch for a head-to-head competition that tests the women in their physical fitness, shooting, tracking, and hunting skills. The entire event is caught on film to produce thirteen exciting weekly episodes.
Stage 5: Episodes air online and public votes after each episode
The first episode of Extreme Huntress will air here on Sunday October 5th at 8:30pm EST. Each riveting episode is roughly 15 minutes long. After each episode, you get to choose which of the six finalists was your favorite Extreme Huntress in that episode. Every week for 13 weeks, there will be a new show– and a new chance for you to vote!
Stage 6: The next Extreme Huntress is announced!
The winner of the competition is determined by a combination of their score in the outdoors skills competition (30%), a separate score from the judges in the hunting competition (40%), and their total of online votes received after the episodes air online (30%).
This year, the 2015 Extreme Huntress winner will be announced at the Dallas Safari Club convention during a gala black-tie awards dinner on January 16, 2015. New for this year, respected artist Mark James has sculpted an exclusive Extreme Huntress™ Award.
