What is the Extreme Huntress™ Competition?
The Extreme Huntress™ Competition is about preserving our outdoor heritage. Our goal is to create positive role models for women who want to participate in hunting and the outdoor lifestyle. Ultimately, we hope to create a new generation of conservation stewards, providing sound management for wildlife and their habitat.
With a 50% divorce rate among parents and kids becoming invested in other sports at a younger and younger age, kids may not have the role models or opportunity to start hunting when they reach the legal age to hunt (12 or 14 depending on the state). If mom goes hunting, so will her children, thus preserving our outdoor heritage for future generations.
Now in its 11th year, the competition is wildly popular among contestants and fans. The Extreme Huntress™ Competition continues to set the bar for serious outdoors women, while at the same time providing positive role models for women who are new to hunting, shooting and other traditional outdoor sports.
How Does the Extreme Huntress™ Competition Work?
The Extreme Huntress Competition takes nearly nine months for the contestants to complete. Now you get the opportunity to see these women in action– and you get the opportunity to vote.
Beginning in October 6, video episodes of Extreme Huntress™ will post online. Afterwards you can vote on which Extreme Huntress you think should win starting October 6. Voting will end 11:59 PM MST, January 5, 2020.
The winner of the 2019 Extreme Huntress Competition will be announced in January at the Dallas Safari Club’s annual black-tie awards dinner.
1: Videos are Submitted
Women from all over the world are invited to post a short video (via YouTube or Vimeo) describing why they are the most hardcore Extreme Huntress.
2: Essays Are Scored
A panel of celebrity judges score the entries to determine the top semi-finalists based on a weighted set of criteria. The judges are interested in why the women hunt, rather than how many or what size animals they’ve taken.
3: Public Online Vote
Once the judges determine the top semi-finalists, the essays are posted on ExtremeHuntress.com and the public is invited to vote for their favorite Extreme Huntress. Online voting is not meant to be a popularity contest, but rather an opportunity to bring more attention and public awareness to women and hunting.
4: Top 4 Finalists Compete
The top four finalists travel to the FTW Ranch in Texas and then Zimbabwe to DesFountain Safaris for a head-to-head competition that tests the women in their physical fitness, shooting, tracking, and hunting skills. The entire event is caught on film to produce tons of exciting video.
5: Episodes Air Online and Voting Begins
We post competition episodes on ExtremeHuntress.com, and YOU, the viewer, get to choose which of the four finalists was your favorite Extreme Huntress.
6: The Next Extreme Huntress is Announced!
The winner of the competition is determined by a combination of their score in the outdoors skills competition (30%), a separate score from the judges in the hunting competition (60%), and their total of online votes (semi-final = 3% and final = 7%) received after the episodes air online (10%). This year, the 2019 Extreme Huntress winner will be announced at the Dallas Safari Club convention during the Ladies Luncheon (a sold out event every year). Respected artist Mark James has sculpted an exclusive Extreme Huntress™ Award.
